127 Philanthropists and Counting

Some of the richest families joined forces in the second week of May in 2014 at the Giving Pledge Annual Gathering. The agenda of this meet up was to discuss the philanthropic commitments. Giving Pledge is just a long term vow these families have made and this initiative has been taken by some of the most notable philanthropists who do not require any kind of introduction. These noteworthy people are none other than Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and Melinda Gates. Our modern society is facing several issues and such issues are not being tackled by the government which has forced these great minds to bring together the wealthiest people on board. The main reason behind this meeting was the collective power that these people have. These people do have a lot of resources and can offer their services individually as well, but as a collective power the output will definitely multiply.

The main topics and issues that were highlighted in this gathering were regarding women and health. It was highlighted that government plays an important role in the wellbeing of the society and it would be essential to take government help as well. Moreover, the importance of women and girls in the society was also stated which paved way towards the discussion of necessity of education and health. This time the gathering involved around 127 participants and these participants represented 12 countries, 26 states of US and Columbia. Some of the new participants joined in 2014 and they were warmly welcomed by the audience. Some of the new members are Ann Gloag, Craig Silverstein and Natalie Orfale. Warren Buffet made a speech to the crowd and stated the importance of diversity that existed in the participants mainly because diversity is what brings in experience and adds to learning and inspiration.

Another new member, Craig Silverstein, also addressed to the crowd announced that the website regarding education has been launched and it is called echidnagiving.org. This initiative is focusing on girls and their education mainly in the developing countries. Before joining Giving Pledge he was working on this project alone but with the help of many other new philanthropists he would definitely bring more positive results. Craig’s wife, also a new member, showed great interest towards education of girls and linked education with betterment of lives around the globe.

As Giving Pledge gains more numbers and strength, the group of philanthropists will be able to fight the main issues that are engraved in our society such as poverty, disasters and slavery.
