The Philanthropy Efforts of Bill Clinton
A full-fledged democrat in mind and a highly, active philanthropist at heart, Bill Clinton continues to help underprivileged people from all walks of life with philanthropy programs and initiatives operating out of many different countries. He was our 42nd president and took office at the end of a grueling Cold War, becoming the first president to represent the now again baby boomer generation. Highly notable for bringing a sense of peace back into the US, under his prowess the country also enjoyed a sense of economical well-being not found in past governments. Thus, Bill Clinton was among the most successful leaders in America.
Currently, Bill Clinton supports close to 60 different charities that cover a very wide range of philanthropy causes ranging from AIDS & HIV to veteran member support. His philanthropy efforts have made great accomplishments in fighting childhood obesity, global warming, and other health-related epidemics. For example, many developing countries that couldn’t manage the high price of HIV drugs were able to receive them even at the expense of the drug company’s massive potential profits. The philanthropy strategy here was to group many countries together in order to expand the entire market for these drugs in order to make them more cost efficient.
Afterwards, the Clinton Foundation turned to global warming, one of the most probing issues in modern times. The Bill Clinton foundation worked with cities around the world to help develop new technologies through philanthropy that weren’t overly pricey for even the poorest cities to be able to afford. For example, fuel celled buses cost two million dollars due to their low demand. By pooling resources and increasing global demand for such products, one can effectively reduce the costs of acquiring and operating them. Hence, many cities were brought together by Clinton’s MBAs to place bulk orders for such products. That enabled producers to sell such buses at a greatly reduced cost – resulting in a true win-win situation for everyone involved.
The same philanthropy tactic can be easily used for climate control systems resulting in better desalination equipment, more modern buildings and even better fertilizers for use in Africa. Climate control and care for the environment will no doubt become one of Clinton’s largest contributions to philanthropy.
The Clinton Climate Initiative also holds yearly conferences that bring together money and people with interesting new ideas for philanthropy. Recently, new software was created to build on existing data collection efforts in Kenya in order to supply advanced data on rain and drought observations. This data will be extremely useful in helping communities better manage water resources in order to reclaim their forests and farms. A similar philanthropy initiative, the Clinton Global Initiative was created to highlight important global issues such as international public health, poverty alleviation and religious wars.
Democrats have a developed a great reputation for helping individuals fight against the prevailing corporate greed that often damages social welfare. The Clinton Foundation is definitely breaking new ground with its philanthropy efforts, but it isn’t working alone. Philanthropists like Bill Clinton, don’t relying on the use of grant applications but instead bring about societal change by getting the right people together. In this way they will likely alter the world for the better.
